According to an estimate, Muslim Awqaf in India are round-about 6000 crore rupees. In 1951, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind raised the question and it was able to get a Central Law passed by the Parliament. By experience, however, it was found that this Central Waqf Act 1954, needed amendments to make it really effective. With that in view, an ‘All India Awqaf Conference’ was held in February 1979. The conference attended by leaders of Muslim organizations, lawyers, parliamentarians, intellectuals etc. passed unanimously a number of resolutions for the improvement in the working of awqaf.  Besides that Jamiat has organised various meetings over this issue and suggested many effective measures.
